Near North Side
Many residents choose the Near North Side for the fact that it has both high-energy atmosphere with a vivacious nightlife scene and is still within walking distance to downtown Chicago's major commercial district, the Loop. Some of the newest and most exciting restaurants in the city call the Near North Side home, making the neighborhood a foodie's paradise. The Chicago River borders the Near North Side on the southern and western sides, North Avenue is the northern most border, and Lake Michigan lies to the east.
The Near North Side is ideal for foodies and people who love to shop. Residents are walking distance from the Loop's theaters and the high-end restaurants in River North and the Gold Coast. The stores on Rush Street and Michigan Avenue are mostly high-end designers including Chanel, Prada, Tom Ford, and many more. When residents aren't busy frequenting a trendy rooftop, Oak Street and North Avenue beaches are the hip places to be in the summertime. Popular attractions include the John Hancock Center and Watertower Place.
Lakeshore Drive runs through the Near North Side. Despite being in such close proximity to the downtown Loop and RIver North areas, some residents opt to take the CTA L red or brown lines into the downtown area or other northern parts of the city through DePaul University's Lincoln Park Campus.
